Most memorable fight:
There was one match at purple belt when I went against somebody who I had trained with a long time ago as a white belt. This was in 2006, and I had tried my first class then. I was easily the worst guy in the room; possibly the worst person to ever try jiu-jitsu. I was out of shape, uncoordinated, and had never done any real sports. I got utterly handled by everybody in the room, eventually got injured and decided to stop jiu-jitsu. I started training again and many years later, I think the match was in 2013, I was able to win a close match against one of the people I had first trained with. It was a great boost to my motivation to see how far I had been able to come from that terrible, spastic white belt from long ago.
Biography:
I was born in the Bay Area in California, and had moved back and forth from there to Korea throughout my life. I moved to Evanston to attend Northwestern University, and found Jiu-Jitsu at a gym near the campus. When I moved to Chicago, a good friend brought me to Brazil-021. Here, I found my passion for passing on the art and in helping others achieve their goals in their journey in learning the art of Jiu-Jitsu.
